The District forms part of the 1-Shillong Parliamentary Constituency which is one of the two Parliamentary constituencies in the state of Meghalaya and it constitutes 7 (seven) of the 60 (sixty) Assembly Constituencies of the State. The Jaintia Hills District Autonomous Council has 29 (twenty nine) constituencies.

Electronic Voting Machine (EVM)

It is for the first time that the Electronic Voting Machine is being put to use for the elections in Meghalaya, starting with the MLA elections 2003 that was held on the 26th Feb, 2003.

The Election Commission, India has taken to the use of this EVM machine to ease the work of casting and counting of votes both for the Voters and the Polling Officers/ Staffs.

The Staffs/Officers of all departments of the District/Block and the whole state were trained on the extensive use of this machine.

In the case of Jaintia Hills District, National Informatics Center, Jowai Unit played an important role in the education / training of the public & staffs alike on the EVM.
